The agency holds a sponsor-supported meeting once a year to provide the Board
of Directors, volunteers, the community, and the region with an assessment of
the agency to which so many dedicate their time and effort. In addition, the
meeting serves to increase the community's awareness of the programs and
services provided by Westview.
Westview's internship program gives undergraduate and graduate level students
experience in the field of treatment. This program offers opportunities for
students from technical schools, four year colleges, and graduate programs to
receive supervision and instruction in areas ranging from administrative
activities to intervention and treatment programs.
Westview's agency newsletter, The West View, provides information about
agency programs and events as well as
educational material regarding substance abuse and mental health issues. The
newsletter is published quarterly to a circulation of approximately 450
agencies, organizations, and friends of Westview.

The Newberry Multi-Agency Council (MAC) was established by Westview in July, 1991 to plan, develop, and coordinate the programmatic and resource development of the community on an ongoing basis and to help ensure that human services are planned and implemented to better serve the citizens of Newberry County.
The Council seeks to engage in positive and collaborative problem-solving by:
The detoxification program, a licensed residential center, offers
non-medical/social/psychological detoxification. Clients are closely monitored
to ensure that complications are identified and treated effectively. Persons can
be admitted during any stage of withdrawal. A South Carolina licensed health
care administrator maintains overall program oversight. Treatment services are
supervised bya Licensed Master of Social Work and managed by a Certified
Addiction Counselor II, who supervises an eight-member team of residential
assistants.
Westview provides detoxification, residential treatment, and outpatient
services to individuals currently receiving benefits through medicaid/medicare
and to individuals who are potential recipients.
Westview residents are provided spiritual growth through the Interfaith
Community Service Program, in which local pastors/ministers participate in
weekly services.
The residential treatment program, a licensed therapeutic community offering
a treatment program for clients who have completed a detoxification program,
provides both group, individual, and family counseling, plus recreational
activities.
During the month of April, Westview implements special programs to educate,
entertain, and involve the community in prevention activities.
Westview provides parenting programs throughout the community. These programs
contain video, lecture, and family interaction components. The programs teach
parents to identify risk factors associated with teenage drug abuse and to
practice skills which will promote family bonding and thereby reduce negative
risks. Specific programs include Families and Schools Together, Preparingfor the
Drug Free Years, and Parent to Parent.
Each October, Westview coordinates the Newberry Red Ribbon Campaign with a
comprehensive, week-long series of events. The agency implements a variety of
programs focusing on community awareness of alcohol and drug problems.
Westview sponsors and facilitates up to three teams from Newberry County to
attend Teen Institute, a week-long teen training retreat. Teams of four high
school students and adult supervisors participate in one of several, week-long
leadership training sessions designed to get them involved in prevention
activities at the local level year round.
The CHAMPS Club is an after-school club developed by Westview which meets in
local housing communities. The goal of the club is to teach children to make
responsible decisions, to understand and to cope with feelings, and to feel good
about themselves. Children between the ages of seven and twelve are members of
the club. Club activities include lessons, games, and field trips to assist club
members in improving their teamwork and cooperation skills, as well as building
self-awareness.
Youth Prevention Initiatives are specially-designed programs targeting youth
and other community segments in order to build on the Teen Institute process.
Youth volunteers work with staff to develop and execute these programs.
Westview's department of special programs provides public speaking lectures
and presentations on a variety of the issues targeted by the agency. Contact the

Through an agreement between Westview and the SC Department of Probation,
Pardon, and Parole, Westview provides aftercare services to graduates of the ATU
at the Department of Corrections. These services are limited to one (1)
assessment and two (2) hours of group counseling per week for three (3) months.
If any client needs additional services, an extension of up to three (3) months
may be approved.
The South Carolina ADSAP program, an eight week program mandated by Sections
56-5-2990 and 56-1-1330 of the SC Code of Laws, 1976, as amended, is a statewide
education and intervention program designed for persons convicted of driving
under the influence. ADSAP services are certified by the SC Department of
Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services.
Offering direct support to employers in identifying, referring, and following
through in treatment recommendations, the EAP serves to assist employees in
dealing with problems which interfere with their jobs. The EAP services include
assessment and evaluation, direct intervention, case management, referral, and
follow-up in all areas. The programs are tailored to meet the needs of the
employer as determined through consultation. EAPs can be effective, cost-saving
benefits to employer and employee alike, reducing turnover and increasing
morale.
Westview offers federal clients an opportunity to receive treatment services
(inpatient and outpatient) in a controlled, structured environment to
individuals identified as needing AOD services. In addition, Westview provides
urinalysis for individuals under this program.
Westview provides an IOP which operates from 9:30 a.m. until noon, 3 days per week. The open-ended groups allow entrance into the program at any point. Treatment is designed so that clients can meet their goals and exit treatment at any point, as well. The program allows differing levels of treatment intensity through a combination of program components:
Westview participates in a quarterly meeting of representatives from local,
state, county, and private agencies to discuss issues relevant to the delivery
of clinical services in Newberry. This also provides a forum for an
interdisciplinary approach to staffing special and/or difficult cases.
Westview coordinates services with the local Probation, Pardon, and Parole
agency, local judges, and magistrates to provide programs to treat the
specialized needs this population presents.
Westview offers a variety of services to individuals, couples, and families
experiencing behavioral, adjustment, marriage, family, and/or alcohol and drug
abuse problems.
Westview's student assistance services take a holistic approach to treatment.
We address a variety of behavioral issues through observation, structured
activities, and group and family counseling sessions.
