A Quick Scan of our Agency and Programs
Westview Behavioral Health Services (Westview) is a South Carolina-licensed and nationally-accredited facility focusing on behavioral issues which negatively effect a person's well-being and personal interaction. In addition, Westview serves as the only local provider of residential treatment for alcohol and other drug abuse.
Westview believes that the physical health and prosperity a person experiences is directly related to factors much less perceptible. We recognize the importance of a balance between mental, physical, and emotional well-being. These three concepts, in concert, are the foundation for making one resilient to the constant buffeting life provides.
Sometimes, however, our resilience is weakened. These are the times we need just a little push to clear the hurdle or a little guidance to find the light at the end of the tunnel. These are the times Westview can help.
Behavioral health in a community must be addressed at all the various levels it manifests. Westview provides services across the full continuum of care-- from prevention/demand reduction services, to outpatient services, to residential detoxification, and treatment services for substance abuse.
Westview also recognizes that due to a variety of psychological stressors, a portion of the general population is at risk for developing negative behavior patterns in an attempt to cope with the daily demands of job, home, relationships, finances, etc. This may manifest itself as feelings of depression and anxiety, lack of self-confidence, low self-esteem, or feeling overwhelmed and unable to cope. We offer affordable, accessible services to assist individuals and families with developing alternative, healthy behaviors, before behavioral health problems manifest.
Westview's Department of Prevention has three major responsibilities:
The prevention of behavioral health problems, also known as demand reduction, is a puzzle that requires the interlocking and interaction of many different pieces. These "pieces" are called target objectives. Specific target objectives might be learning coping and conflict resolution skills, increasing knowledge of alcohol and other drug issues, developing healthy lifestyles in the target population, or enhancing family management skills.
Each target objective connects with another as part of the larger picture to help accomplish the department's goals. Taken individually, one objective cannot create lasting community health. However, taken in concert, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
Services provided by Prevention may include such activities as Teen Leadership Connection, Families and Schools Together, Westview's CHAMPS Club, afternoon workshops in local housing communities, drug-free workplace training, family enhancement workshops, and the Resource Library which contains a library of books, magazines, and videos focusing on prevention and demand reduction.
Westview offers a variety of services to individuals, couples, and families experiencing adjustment, relationship, family, and/or alcohol/drug problems. Its programs are inspected regularly by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control.
Westview's outpatient services provide pre-treatment planning and diagnosis. Treatment plans are customized according to each individual's needs.
Hours of operation are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays to allow for easy access to treatment services with a minimum amount of job interference. Alternative hours are available upon request.
Programs offered include:
Westview's services take a holistic approach to treatment. We address a variety of behavioral issues through observation, structured activities, and group and family counseling sessions.
Westview's residential services are composed of two major components:
detoxification treatment and residential treatment. The residential components
consist of ten beds, providing 24 hour social-setting detoxification, a
non-medical, supervised withdrawal regimen for both alcohol- and
drug-intoxicated individuals. The program is licensed by the SC DHEC and is
monitored at least annually. This component provides three- to four-day
detoxification assistance to about 120 people each year. It has been established
as an invaluable tool for identifying individuals in relatively late stages of
chemical dependency and channeling them into further treatment.
The residential treatment component offers co-ed facilities for persons coming from detoxification or other programs. This program offers therapeutic residency for an average of 9 days. Both components are invaluable tools for preparing recovering people for a return to fully independent living in their community. These programs provide room and board, individual counseling, group counseling, case management, and referral services.
